AE did a lot of good things for game quality of life. Appearance, load times, additional modes, etc are all much nicer and what we should've expected from a fighting game, over the more bare bones SFV launch. If the game was like this on release, I think most of the negative reactions never would have happened.

Balance-wise, I think SFV has been decent for a while, and so far the AE update doesn't necessarily make it more or less balanced? Some of the dumb anti-airs getting nerfed is nice (stand/crouch jab no longer beats everything), but I can't speak to too many balance changes yet. I think two V triggers will help towards players finally developing characters to be their own (like you may finally watch a Guile play and think, "that plays like Nuckledu's Guile" vs "that plays like Daigo's Guile"). There was a tendency in SFV before for everyone to play characters the same way and not deviate from a character blueprint too much. That said, the game has skewed to be more V Trigger heavy, so a more matches may involve someone activating V trigger, doing some nasty Marvel-like mixups, and winning.

I played a decent amount of SFV AE at Frosty Faustings last weekend, and I will say, it was some of the most fun I've had playing the game in a while, so early returns are positive for me.
