The one where everyone lives in a world of varied superpowers, but only an arbitrary percentage of people get those powers.

Thats not the part of the trope that bothers me though.

It always starts with the MC being powerless and agonizing that he cant fight/whatever alongside the other superpowered folk. But his desire eventually manifests into being granted a superpower by whatever force s meant to be active in the narrative. So hes happy he can fight with others.

And my first thought is... what about everyone else? What ABOUT the other 98% or 25% or whatever of people who arent given super cool abilities? Theyre supposed to just stick their thumb in their ass as they toil away at the regular life MC dreaded eventually succumbing to?

Its such bullshit, and it just reeks of the premise that the author only thought up superpower stuff because of how COOL it was, and didnt think to flesh out the fact that if something like that existed, those people with superpowers would be exploited to hell and back once normal people got the technology to catch up to them.

So the regular people are worthless, and the superpowered minority essentially governs the fate of the world world and, sometimes, the universe.

It absolutely reeks of bullshit American 1% nonsense mixed with less rapes Greek myth stuff.

And yes, Im talking mainly about My Hero Academia. Although many other shows/comics cover the same things.

It just gets me... nettled.

I like the trope where a minor character gets the spotlight for a moment, goes on a impassioned diatribe, then explodes.

What about the trope where you have an obviously best girl who the MC doesn't smash so I can't self insert fanfic without writing out of character.

At first I thought that felt in line with thr main character of My Hero Academia. But he's actually in the 1% of people that don't have powers. A lot of powers are useless though.

Fixed that for you. He's in a school full of people with the best of the best powers, and in a class of the best of those from his grade, and there's still a guy who has the power of "My hair is sticky balls that I can throw at people", a girl who is a frog, a girl who's power can temporarily remove gravity from stuff, a guy who shoots a laser from his belly button and then gets sick, and others.

Only a couple of them have actually good powers.
