I've bitched about Capcom making shitty decisions for years now, but I bought MH World. You know why? Because I've also been saying for a decade that the MH series needs a proper console version and not another handheld port, and I want to support Capcom when they DO make good decisions, so I spoke with my wallet.

I grew up playing Capcom games and they probably account for over half my favorite series.

However, Monster Hunter World is the start of their last good series, slipping down a dangerous slope. So I won't be playing or supporting the direction they're sure to take the series in. But I do hope that everyone who does can have a good hunt.

Tsujimoto can say that the DLC will stay free, and sure, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But Tsujimoto doesn't speak for Capcom's corporate greed, and there is literally no reason for them not to cash in on MH for the console crowd.

I mean, it's Capcom--the "gut this game/just put it on disc" DLC guys--interacting with the console crowd--who have proved, time after time, that they bend backwards to be nickel and dimed for that next new bit of data.

The situation probably won't get any worse with World, especially if they release XX on Switch sometime in the next year or so.

However, the thing is that once XX is done with its run (assuming it doesn't suffer the same fate as p3rd), Capcom can just say "Free DLC was a thing of the past, for those simple handheld games!" and then everyone will be ponying up for those rare monsters and drops.

At least, that's the way I see it.
