I feel like most Netflix original movies are really milquetoast. The original screenplay was written by Max Landis, so there was a HUGE amount of hype for it right from the start. Even if what was on the screen had some really big differences than the first draft of the script that leaked (there were actual witches as opposed to elves, if I recall correctly) everyone in the writing community, and tons of film enthusiasts were always super excited about it, because it promised that original plots were still marketable (and hugely profitable). But I digress. I feel like a lot of the backlash against it is in direct opposition to all the hype it got from... I wanna say early 2016? Its underwhelming, sure, but its not bottom of the barrel scum some critics are claiming it as. Its divisive, sure, but most big budget action flicks these days are. I havent slept, and Im literally reading a thing and watching tv at the same time.
