why

I'm going to call tomorrow if they're open and see if it's a mistake. The only thing I've done any different is leave some water dripping nights it hard froze, which wasn't even that many nights. I can't find any source of a leak myself. I'll have to have someone look at it but idk how I'm supposed to pay them either.

I guess I should mark my calendar as the day my downward spiral officially started.

So couldn't contact them today without calling the water emergency line which they said if its not an emergency could result in a $75 fine so guess I'm waiting until tomorrow to call.

Anyone have any advice?

Do you know where your hook up is?

If so turn off all water and go see if the gauge moves still if so you have a leak that needs fixing.

I was able to contact them and they're going to send someone out to check their meter because it might be on their end, in which case they'd waive the bill but if it's on my end I'll obviously have to pay the bill and repairs as well which I don't have the money for so obviously I'm hoping it's their issue.

Had a similar issue a few summers ago. Basically what that means is, if there's a leak anywhere from the water main to your house (including anywhere in your house), then you're responsible. Don't know if water main is technically the name for it, but most houses have a small hole in the ground near the street that allows the water to flow to the house. You can turn a lever to restrict flow to the entire house. Basically, if there's a leak from this point to your house, the water company says you're responsible.

Yep, ofc I'm responsible for it. I'm filling up some jugs and bottles before I shut it off.

This is going to be great. Last months bill was $300 but it's looking like between late fees and what they're saying has already been used this billing cycle it's going to be more like $500 plus I have to figure out how to actually pay for repairs.

I'm younger than most people here. I had to leave a poor family with a toxic home life and haven't been on my own that long. I wasn't really taught the proper skills for managing my life but I've been winging it and learning since I moved out. I'm currently on disability for at least 4 more months because I fucked up my back and right leg falling off a roof on a job I was doing on the side on top of my retail job I'd been doing a couple months just to try to make more money. Whatever money I had got ate by the medical bills, I'm probably not going to be ready in 4 months either because I'm not going to PT because I can't afford to but I'm going to try to figure something out as soon as I'm physically able to even if it's just doing some basic jobs for people directly since I don't really have any choice because disability is giving me next to nothing and I have no idea how to live on it.

Dustin1280 posted...

The bill I have is 300-something but even shutting it off now they're saying I can expect it to be $200 more by the end of the billing cycle if there's late fees too. It's always been about $60, so that's what I've always anticipated I might've been able to handle it up to $80 maybe even $100 but not anywhere near this.

No you don't need to do that. If you were just a rich dude or something that would be one thing but I don't want some stranger who's just a Joe Averageman returning stuff to help my fucked up life. I'm just trying to vent mostly and figure out what to do about everything.

Yeah I'm trying to do that right now and I took a shower then filled the bathtub just for using to flush the toilet. Don't know exactly what I'm going to do about bathing yet but I guess I'll just have to figure that out.

Had to look that up but damn yeah I guess that would be worse of the whole town was out.

But ngl pretty freaked out right now. Not sure if I should try getting a credit card or some kind of loan. I don't know much about credit nor do I have any. I tried to avoid going into the red though because even at my best situation I'm just sort of scraping by and I feel like going into debt in any way is just the beginning of the end for me. I had planned to get my shit together then get a credit card just for paying my bills to establish credit but idk what I should do now.

That's a nice offer and I guess while e-begging wasn't really my intention, if you have something to spare and are in a good place financially then that's okay, but I'd also feel bad if someone like hortanz is returning things to try to help me out. I already feel pretty shitty about even being on government assistance to begin with, even though I'm complaining about how I can't even make it by on it, I'm not ungrateful for it either.

It's usually 60~ the 300 is just with the leak. That's why I'm fucked 300~ is literally double my electric bill ffs. I can post a pic if you want. I still get my bill physically.

If hortanz was serious and also sends you like $100.00 you might be able to pay around $300 of your bill...

Sorry I've been busy. It's sucked having it still shut off except to refill jugs and immediately turn it off but my a guy from work is going to come look at it and see if there's anything he can do. Seems to me, on my not so expert opinion, like it's a leak in the water main from the street just on my end for it to be my problem. No idea what I'm potentially looking at cost wise yet because I was trying to get the bill paid first so I didn't get behind or anything before having someone come out.

I had a roommate at one point but they fucked me over. It's not too easy to find a good roommate at this level out here. My plan was to get out of here as soon as possible, I just haven't really had the means yet.
