*Shining, god damn it
Mike Flanagan has set his next horror film in Doctor Sleep, the adaptation of Stephen Kings The Shining sequel. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has tapped Flanagan (Geralds Game, Oculus) to direct the film. At this point it is not yet known if the movie will be a sequel to Stanley Kubricks 1980 film, or if it will follow on the novels original storyline. Published 36 years after The Shining, Doctor Sleep follows an adult Danny Torrance from the original novel. Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his fathers legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes Doctor Sleep. There Dan meets Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dans own demons and summons him to a battle for Abras soul and survival. --- ... The book was mediocre at best though... Yeah. It had none of the feel or spirit of The Shining. Very blah. Felt like a wasted opportunity, and oh god, the villains. --- I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Didn't the Shining Miniseries wrap up his adult years? He could communicate with the spirits or wherever and was content with that. The end.

Doctor Sleep is alright. It has that problem King has sometimes where a book is a TON of build-up, but it doesn't actually manage to pull it off in the end. Like this book gives the True Knot and Rose the Hat 400 pages (or whatever) of history and context and tension, then just sort of shits itself at the end.
FWIW, I do kind of like the idea of the True Knot. I see why @_Schwarzlicht_ and @Cookie_Bag hate them, but I like that they're weird murderous RV old people. --- http://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif http://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif http://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif So? I deeded to some gay porn. It doesn't mean anything. - Patty_Fleur ... Copied to Clipboard!
