I think its ridiculous and not racist at all, but they are bowing to appease whiny millennials who don't even know what racism is.

There are respectful ways, I think to have native imagery if you're a team named the Indians. Chief Wahoo is not one of them.

They've been phasing CW out for a decades now. He's been heading this way since they replaced the mascot of Wahoo with whatever the hell Slider is supposed to be. Wahoo has been given less and less uniform prominence as well.

Honestly it's not a big deal either way. Many teams change their logos for much dumber reasons and it's not a huge thing.

Yeah, real racism is the genocide and forced relocation of tens of thousands of people. Poking fun at them after the fact is just the cherry on top.

Exactly. No one complains about the Atlanta Braves, or the Chicago Blackhawks, or the Kansas City Chiefs, or the Florida State Seminoles, and so on... Only the Cleveland Indians (for their logo being a cartoonish caricature of an entire race) and the Washington Redskins (for the name being a slur directly referring to the color of their skin) have people criticizing them, and the Indians just solved their problem.

Not only that, but I remember this came up in class a lot of and one guy made the excellent point that Braves, Blackhawks, and Chiefs are all occupations/warriors/etc, which makes them more like saying the Spartans or the Knights than anyone tribe or race.

Seriously, though, why the fuck are people defending the racist as fuck logo nowadays? We are routinely inundated with funny lists of incredibly racist old-timey ads that everyone points at as a hilarious representation of how stupid our advertising was, and yet the Indians are A-OK.

Makes sense to get rid of it. It offends way too many white people and we cant have that so removing this logo is the right thing to do.

Funny, I seem to recall a lot of Aboriginal people being offended by it too, not to mention the Aboriginal people I've spoken to myself and the communities that have been outspoken about it in the news for years now.

The club has been called the Indians since 1915, but Wahoo was not born until 1947. Protests and litigation against the team date to the 1970s.

Making someone into a goofy cartoon based on a bunch of perceived stereotypes isn't putting them down?

Also, you seem to be ignoring the fact that First Nations/Aboriginal/Native American groups have outright stated they are offended, so stop hiding behind the 'only white people are mad so it's not racist' thing.
