https://www.cbsnews.com/news/viewers-approve-of-trumps-first-state-of-the-union-address-cbs-news-poll/

Three in four Americans who tuned in to President Trump's State of the Union address tonight approved of the speech he gave. Just a quarter disapproved.

Eight in 10 Americans who watched tonight felt that the president was trying to unite the country, rather than divide it. Two-thirds said the speech made them feel proud, though just a third said it made them feel safer. Fewer said the speech made them feel angry or scared

But as is often the case in State of the Union addresses, the people who watched tonight's speech leaned more towards the president's own party, at least compared to Americans overall. In the latest CBS national poll released earlier this month, 24 percent of Americans identified themselves as Republicans. Among those who watched tonight's address, that percentage was 42 percent, bolstering the overall approval of the address.

Obviously the audience is biased towards the party in power, but that's still an impressive showing.

That's basically how it works. If he just stays out of the news for a few days, his approval ticks up over that time because people forget what he did in the past to get his approval there in the first place

what annoyed me was that Stephen Colbert was all ready for it to suck. I saw an ad for his show to air after the speech. and he was predicting Trump would say really stupid and wrong things. I didn't actually bother to watch it though cause fuck Stephen Colbert. but I bet the whole show was grasping at straws to make jokes and the audience laughed when the "please laugh" sign lit up.

This CBS News 2018 survey is based on 1,178 interviews conducted on the internet of U.S. residents who watched the State of the Union Address. Panelists were previously interviewed on January 29-30, 2018 to indicate whether they planned to watch the address, and if they were willing to be re-interviewed after the address. Questions asked during this initial interview have the note "Asked before the SOTU address.'' The margin of error is +/- 3.1%.

Sampling bias. The population is presented as "all Americans" while the actual sampling frame was "Americans who planned to watch the SOTU"

Edit: reread the headline. Withdraw my original statement.

Don't answer that, you obviously didn't.

He outlined a FAR LEFT plan to give millions of illegals amnesty. Far to the left of Obama and what DACA is. Yet that's still not enough, is it? It's never enough, he's always shitting on everyone because you have to hate every word he says.

How can Americans who didn't watch be included in this survey? It's a poll of American viewers, and it's acknowledged that this skews towards the party in power.

So, a pretty accurate view of the nation? Although the real number is probably higher, at least 60%. Most Americans support the president, even if they don't approve of his job performance. That's important to understand.

A good citizen always wants their president to succeed because they recognize that's good for them. I was hoping Obama would be able to actually deliver on his promises that he made, and he failed. Trump is actually doing what he said he would do, and the people can see that.

I read the speech today because Trump talks like he just took a roided up MLB designated hitter's grand slam swing to the head and it's annoying as fuck. From the sound of it I made the right choice since it apparently took like an hour and a half due to all the clapping and shit.

It was a pretty good speech. But he's given "unifying" speeches before and then gone back to being antagonistic to everyone within a week, which I'm sure will happen again.

It's easy to say inspiring words that someone else wrote down for him. But actually acting on those words is where he usually fails. Hopefully this time it's different though.

It's physically impossible that a man with a long history of televised appearances could have simply given a good, well-written speech excellently delivered.

No, it must be bias.

I mean, I get that his off-the-cuff remarks are awful, but come on people, he had a TV show. The man knows how to deliver his lines when he bothers to rehearse them.

Trump is getting milquetoasty on criminals. literally trying to get Americans to sympathize with a Ji Seong-Ho, whose problems started because he conspired to STEAL coal.

he went on some wacky adventure, got fucked up in the process, got other people fucked up as a ramification, etc...

the moral of that story should've been, "don't be stealing, you!" but no... a guy who descends from generations of debauchery can't be expected to think like a REAL earner.
