and the women handing out newspapers who got shot at during the manhunt for that ex cop in LA. chris dorner or whatever. no excuse to just fire blindly into trucks. they could have killed those women. they were just doing their jobs and throwing newspapers. and cops turned around like action stars and emptied their clips into the truck without even checking who was inside

Again those are freak accidents from either some miscommunication or just high tensions. Put yourself in the situation of a reasonable officers given the circumstances

But let's talk shit about cops because they shot someone on accident who lived while in the middle of a manhunt for one of the more profile cases in our lives?

we don't think that

we think you're poorly trained, don't speak out against bad cops in your departments, and give slaps on the wrists (or just move people to different departments) when people should be getting fired. And overall cops seem to be against being held accountable for their actions.

american cops are the most violent cops in the western world. they act like military soldiers. and there are more killings from cops in America than in any other western country. the way cops are trained is a serious problem in this country, and a danger to the citizens. as a cop you like to think the killings are rare, but to unarmed scared citizens, it happens way too often. it is not in fact rare. it seems to happen like once a week. cops are out of control. and people don't trust them

1. You're wrong and I would like to see your data on this. I would like you to bring me all of the training, classes, etc.. one department does wrong. Tell me why it's ineffective and what you do differently to train them to your standard then

2. 100 percent yes they do. This isn't triple 9. There is a whole internal affairs that's very brutal. A lot of times it doesn't warrant getting fired it's just an overreaction caused by our social media age

3. They are 100 percent being held accountable. Body cams are pretty unforgiving. Just had an officer fired for doing an improper technique while arresting someone

put yourself in the situation of the victim. I am sick of cops telling me to be symapthetic to their viewpoint. what about ours? its ok for the cop to be scared and fire his gun. but it's not ok for the citizen to be scared.make one mistake and the cop can kill you just cause he is scared and his scaredness overrides the scaredness of the innocent citizen. countless cops have been "scared" and killed unarmed people who just made a twitchy move cause they don't have the training that cops do for high stress situations.

They actually don't, because military soldiers receive far better training than the cops do. That's why incidents like the cops shooting the guy in the hotel hallway are shocking to people in the military, at least according to the internet comments I've read.

I think the issue is the force attracts too many incompetent people. There is no barrier to keep out the shit heads unless they're blatantly crazy. It's like teaching. Anybody with half a brain could become a teacher, it wont be until they do something really fucking stupid that they'll get kicked out but by then it's too late.

It's like a stupid person can't just decide to be a mechanical engineer. But with these careers they can.

look, I just don't want to die and have my killer get a paid vacation even after it's proven I was unarmed. in any other job, you make a mistake and you get fired. cops are allowed to say "I was scared" and everyone goes "ooooooo poor thing...it's ok" and pat them on the back while the innocent civilian is bleeding out on the street.

I have autism and people with mental disorders don't do well in encounters with cops. cops are not trained to deal with people who don't have normal brains. I am super shy, I have anxiety, I sometimes make weird movements. a cop could very well gun me down because they think I am on drugs or that I am reaching for a gun. I do not trust cops and I avoid them as a rule in my life. I've never spoken to a cop in my life, and I hope I never have to. I used to live near a cop station and would walk to work past it. sometimes I had to walk right past cops. I was always very nervous. I am not comfortable around cops. they freak me out.

Out of my own curiosity what even semi-plausible situation would require that?

One person.
It doesn't matter if you have 20, 2000, or 20,000. All it takes is one person on something like a high room or roof.

You should get a helicopter. A helicopter just saved a couple officers lives by being overhead and pointing an a person who actively shooting at officers exact location at night

Don't sit there and be so smug and laugh about it. Nothing happens here.

You know what happened where I live close to, too? October 1st. Nothing happens there, it's a resort town

you can't actually believe this.

Im asking you to show me otherwise

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-michael-slager-sentencing-20171207-story,amp.html

The video of that shooting was one of the most disgusting things Ive ever seen. The cop had zero excuse for shooting but that didnt stop him from putting a few rounds through the guys back. Then he and his partner planted the taser on the dying mans body to try to make it seem justified. If it hadnt been for the random passerby recording them, they probably would have gotten away with murder.

Yes, completely unjustified shootings by cops like these may not be very common, but to act like they never happen is breathtakingly ignorant.

Take the hallway scene in Arizona with Daniel Shaver. Yes it's not at all a common situation but that's the sort of shit people are afraid of and it only needs to happen once before you're dead.

900 people out of 323 million.

53,000 assaults against police officers in a year. 143 killed, 60+ in gun-related incidents.

53 police officers are assaulted on duty for every person killed each year.

There are bad shootings; there are bad cops.

There are outright scum that hide behind the badge. Your problem should be with the police unions, not the patrolmen.

Yes, police training can improve. It should improve. But to act like police, of whom there are 900,000, are wontonly killing people in the streets, is irresponsible and outright fallacious.

If you want better training for your local police, start a goFundMe to bankroll it. Talk to your city council. Be heard. Stop crying on CE about your mental issues that you think put you at risk.
