those combo boxes at taco bell cost like a dollar or 2 dollars more than they claim on tv. so like if the commercial says "5 dollar box" it's actually as much as 7 dollars.

Is it true you can get government money for moving to Alaska?

you have to live here for a few years at least. I don't remember how many. but I haven't even been here 1 full year yet.

I would expect the low temperatures to be worse than Taco Bell prices but I guess you would know better than me.

I think it might be like $500 dollars or something. it's an annual check once it kicks in.

Ive only been to Haines, Alaska. we went in September so I was expecting it be chilly, but the week we were there was really sunny and warm. must have been destiny because the weather leading up to our stay was shit, and it was back to shit like the day after we left

devsbro, about the temperature thing. yes it sucks. but it's actually not as bad as it sounds. you get used to it, and the air is dryer up here so it doesn't feel as cold as it is. the other day it was like 2 degrees and I went to the store, and I didn't even know it was that cold. my mom told me later.

Any cool/interesting/crazy/scary encounters with animals?

not since I have moved up here. I mean well, I have seen some moose. in my parent's backyard, and on the side of the road while in a car. but they didn't threaten me

but I also used to live here when I was a little kid. and one time I was walking with my mom and dog and the dog barked at a baby, and then the mom chased us and my mom yelled at me to get in the garage, we were near our house.

and one time I was in a treehouse and moose came in the yard and I was stuck up there. I remember looking down and seeing my family watching me from the window in the house. and I couldn't come down till firemen came and shooed the moose away.

I've heard that Blockbuster / video rental is still a big deal up there due to how shitty the internet is. I can sympathize if true.

I've seen them. or one at least. but I dont know how big it is. the internet isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. but according to my brother (who has been up here for over a decade) it used to be much worse. I think they finally got their act together just a couple years ago. I know that my brother used to not be able to use netflix. it buffered too much. like every 10 seconds. it was useless. you do have to watch your data caps. I never had to worry about data caps in Washington state. but there is only one company here for internet, GCI and they are kinda greedy.

The PFD is once a year dividend to qualifying Alaskans. Last year was reduced once again from an expected payout from around $2200 to the 2017 amount of $1100.

Cool. Not bad, but still not worth it. Maybe some day if I decide to move and retire in Alaska.
