There are games being played now yet they are airing local programming. Seems like a waste of their money not airing what they paid a lot of money for live on a Saturday.

I went to CBS sports and they showed the schedule. Turns out NBC won't start airing anything until 3pm ET today. It will air until 6pm and then a 2 hour break until more Olympic coverage that is kinda sad it should be airing closer to 16 hours a day. They should show the stuff live when they can then air repeats at prime time.

Because they have an exclusive contract giving them a de facto monopoly on Olympic coverage, so why should they bother to care?

Yeah there's literally no reason why they can't just broadcast it for free and just flash some ads on the screen every once in a while. That seems like a palatable compromise.

The Olympics site is weird. It shows MY local time but AFAIK the schedule of events is in the Olympic time zone, so what good does that do me.

Also just realized there were like two US athletes in the top 30 of that last event which is probably why NBC didn't care to show it.

AFAIK there was just one event going.

It's made all the more confusing by the fact that NBC apparently has some alternate reality schedule where they're airing everything at a delay. That CBS schedule you posted was NBC's television schedule but most of, if not ALL, of those events would have been completed already and not aired live.

I think its odd with anything except the Olympics, which is mostly shown on a variety of channels that definitely are tied to a tv subscription.

NBC should still air stuff on broadcast tv it would get a lot of viewers since not everyone has cable.
