Idk about tipping. Generally the $100K medical bill bankrupts them so they have no money to tip with.

What sucks about living in America is that you can't get a haircut if you don't have cash. A lot of barber shops don't accept credit/debit cards and if you don't have cash you don't have cash to tip. Remember that barbers are paying to work there (renting a chair) so they do need the extra money.

its not only to tip. many barber shops are independently operated and don't see a whole lot of traffic so they try to avoid paying debit/credit fees. if they had to pass those fees onto us they'd get even fewer customers. Mine is mom and pop and they accept credit. i write in the tip a lot of the time. But then again the only 3 people who cut hair there are family. they don't have any 3rd party stylists (they used to but i haven't seen them in years)

Healthcare, like higher education, is a great example of how everything the federal government touches becomes more expensive.

But what about other countries whose governments play a bigger role in healthcare and they spend less than we do?

Those governments are still running deficits so it isnt sustainable.

Our government is probably not as efficient as Japans but that doesnt mean that the Japanese government is as efficient and effective as the free market.

Every Western government will have to learn the hard way that deficits are unsustainable.

But if we're all running deficits and they're spending less on healthcare then why shouldn't we give it a try so we run less of a deficit?

Their governments don't play a bigger role overall. They just subsidize costs.

The US government regulates the shit out of EVERYTHING. Basically all the regulations make it so that everyone has to spend 2-3x more money on everything.

Source that the US regulates that stuff more than Europe?

Take accutane for example. I know a girl who's going to get on it. She has to schedule like 4 appointments, take a couple pregnancy tests, etc. Essentially, we make everyone go through all this extra bullshit in order to prevent the tiny % of people who might fuck something up or might have further problems down the road.

Maybe your friend is just an idiot so they need to give her extra appointments? Your anecdotal experience doesn't mean anything.

America is extremely poor in many respects. In your quest to have small government, everyones worse off for it. Great job.

For all the criticisms and faults of the ACA (obamacare), it did mandate insurance that puts a cap on out of pocket medical expenses to about ~6k (about double if it's a household). The whole 100k medical bill is a relic of the pre-obamacare era that people so pine about returning to when they complain about their current premiums.

I should have said "don't necessarily play a bigger role". My bad. I was just pointing out that whether or not your healthcare is subsidized is only one small aspect of how government plays a role in affecting healthcare.

What about European regulations?

Also, how is subsidizing costs a small role?

What about them?

You said one of the reasons why ours is more expensive than European healthcare is because of regulations. I asked you for a source that backs that up.

also, again,

How is subsidizing costs a small role?
