Almost everybody is aware that it's pronounces "red-ing railroad" and not "reed-ing railroad," correct? I heard someone pronounce it wrong, and I just want to make sure that was one person comically ignorant, and not a common belief.

Idk about "Almost everyone", but that is the original English pronunciation, yes.

I used to pronounce it "reed-ing" until the internet informed me in like the early 2000s. I'm sure the incorrect pronunciation is common, given most people aren't familiar with railroad companies and it's natural to just assume it would be pronounced the same way as the word "reading" as in to read a book.
