But the thing is most games can be completed without DLC.

We haven't seen a developer crank up the difficulty to ball bleedingly hard and offer DLC that makes the game easier. I would think that would happen somewhere along the line.

Pretty sure the only real issue people have with DLC is when the devs cut content already found on the game to sell later as extras.

Then there's games like Destiny that literally lock you out of the on disc content/take away the ability to play with others if you don't pick up the latest expansion.

This and Day One DLC is shitty.

I can't remember the last game to do this though. Mass Effect 3 is the last one I remember.

Some games do it right and some dont.

That star wars game that everybody canceled their preorders over is an example of a game that does it wrong.

I will pay for dlc in a game like fallout because you get a fair chunk of gameplay, although if the DLC is released suspiciously soon after the games initial release, then I dont like that one bit. Thats when I feel cheated.

But we've seen a developer crank up the difficulty in unlocking playable characters and on-disc content to ball bleedingly hard and offer DLC that makes unlocking that content easier. It's called Star Wars Battlefront 2.

What counts as cut content? How do you even know what is cut out? Also you do realize that a game is done way way before it is shipped out to stores for people to buy right? It takes time to physically make the game, ship it to warehouses to store, and then ship to the stores to sell. All that time, devs can spend time making DLC that can and does come out when the game comes out. Hell if the company is big enough, during the bug testing phase, DLC can be started.

I think he was referring to when there's DLC on the disc that just needs to be unlocked. Capcom did this quite a lot last gen.

Yeah I'm aware that sometimes games have cut content remnants still on the disc. This goes back to the SNES/Genesis era. I don't have an issue if those evolve into DLC.

That should be called on disk DLC then. That is bad.

people assumed the cut content. for example in fighting games:

20 characters announced, and then 10 characters announced as DLC BEFORE the game is released.

a smarter move by the developer would be announcing dlc characters after releasing the game, this way the fools won't complained about cut content
