no, A gun isnt. but 30million guns might. guns are a deterrent from what the government can get away with. realistically the US govt. isnt going to open fire on its citizens especially when its citizens ARE the military. its that uncertainty aided by a massive armed populous with no actual knowing who has what thanks to limited registration that keeps people in check.

the 2nd amendment as dictated by the courts also gives every citizen the right to arms to defend themselves not just from a tyrannical govt., but also anyone who seeks to do them harm be it domestic or foreign.

and even if it didnt its every free thinking human beings right to defend themselves and family with what ever means deem necessary. a piece of paper doesnt dictate that.
