Along with having cameras/alarms by any backdoors so if someone tries to get around it an alarms goes off to alert the security guards?

There probably won't be any gun control laws but both sides of the aisle would probably agree to doing this.

That is the environment I grew up in. Walking through metal detectors and if something set off censor getting screened with those handheld detectors. I'm guessing you didn't have metal detectors at your school to be saying something like that?

Yea man...that'll help. what it CAN prevent is weapons on campus being used during a fight or domestic dispute within the school. Like preventing a guy from bringing in a knife or a gun at the beginning of the school day to use against someone he had an argument with later...a guy with a full arsenal hell bent on committing mass murder won't be deterred by a metal detector.

I noticed this when I went to an NFL game

Everybody is corralled outside into preset lines and groupings.

Also when I was stationed in Texas, there was an ISIS in Mexico scare so they started doing a lot more random inspections. Which resulted in huge lines at the gate. All you'd have to do is role up in a VBIED to do massive damage

It all sounds nice and good on paper but extra security results in a lot of wasted time and innocent people standing around.

Let's say you install a bunch of metal detectors. You've created huge ass lines where people have to take their keys out their pockets, their phones out, etc. A dude who wants to shoot up a school now has an easy, exploitable target

My school was not an inner city school or anything, and in middle school and high school we had armed guards, we walked through a metal detector at work the entrance and a backpack/purse check. If we set off the detector we were then checked with the hand wand detector things. We werent allowed to have cellphones either. I graduated in 2010 and these things were around well before me so this practice has been going on for a while

By creating a stopping point at the entrance you can trigger a Code Red earlier and allow teachers to lock down sooner. Its not about stopping all shooters, its about saving lives.

Most school policies have just locked the doors and hide under the desks and stay out of sight from being seen in the hallway. One of the classroom massacres in Sandy Hook the door was locked and everyone was already hidden. He just forced his way through the locked door and killed a large amount of the class.

Could this help? Only marginally considering even with time to do lock down policies it didn't have much of an effect in school shootings where it happened and it's just being used as a scapegoat/conversation derailment to stop talking about gun control.

So TC, metal detectors work sorta, during class.. but what about the start of school, lunch, end of school, outdoor recess. The shooter may not interrupt class, but he has plenty of opportunity through out the day. And what if he sets off the metal detector, shoots the metal detector watching person, then shoots everyone in the entry way and then shoots himself.

Schools need security plain and simple. The reason school shootings happen is because it's a "gun free zone", which translates to "everyone here is a sitting duck". A soft target, because there is no security. This is the solution everywhere else. Isn't at least 2 armed guards in every school not the best starting point to fighting back against school shooters? as of right now, shooters can just walk in and fire away. Just the presence of security would be a partial deterrent, and also make it harder to pull off a shooting, and further more the response time to one starting would be soo much faster.
