"It didn't look like shit."

Up to about v11, my reaction to board upgrades was mostly "Oh, that's a definite visual improvement!" After v11, my response to upgrades was usually "Well, things look worse now than they used to, why the hell did anyone think this would be a good idea?"

And sadly, my reaction to most of the board upgrades post v13ish was "Man, not only do things look worse now, but they basically just broke features the site has had for more than a decade in order to add features that I don't even remotely give a shit about, and will literally never use (or will actively disable ASAP)."

Basically, GameFAQs seriously needs to hire some backend people who actually know how to code. But that's never going to happen, because the site is pretty much a write-off at this point.
