Ok...I understand why people might not like the character, but why is everything related to feminism? "Frozen is feminism! Poop is feminism!" Ffs, can we just let there be women doing stuff in movies. Like a woman drinking out of a paper cup...is that gonna be feminism too. The only thing that I would let slide and say seems to be overly SJW is Star Trek Discovery having a black female lead named Michael. That's just like too many minority layers for it to not be obvious. So there is a trend in powerful female characters? Ok there's a trend. Collectively, movies might be going toward feminism, but the stuff going on within the movies isn't excessive feminism. It's not like Wonder Woman is twice as strong as Superman in Justice League. It's fine. Relax.

To be fair, she is the only person in the entire Star Wars universe with apparently dyed hair.

If she had other alien features, or if the hair dye was made to look more "natural", it probably wouldnt be so bad. But its a jarring design to have stuff like Chewbacca, Bossk, Kit Fisto, those tiny nuns, etc. And a woman with Party City hair. It also doesnt help that she was made to be purposefully insufferable to justify Poe's bullcrap.

The feminism stuff is overblown but she is a terrible character with a lazy ass design.

i think one of the many problems with the new movies is that there is a distinctive lack of aliens, with a focus on human racial/gender diversity, which i dont think is a problem, but it does stand out as a pretty obvious agenda. i dont think i can name a single prominent alien in the new movies tbh.

Yeah this is the problem I have with her. It just created a meaningless conflict. The Resistance is on its last legs, so no reason to keep secrets.

These characters were given a political message by the film creators. This means they aren't just 'doing stuff.' They were created to have a political message.

This. Holdo was an awfully written character, but out of all the issues with her the purple hair is like, way down there on the list. If her character was written better it wouldn't matter what color hair she had. Likewise if she was a brunette and still the same, people would rightfully complain about her.

But a 10 minute video complaining about a toy? Come on man

In defense of Holdo's actions (not that I like the character, she's very much a non-character for me):

Perhaps the reason she didn't tell Poe was out of fear that information would leak out to the First Order. Up until that point she had no real reason to trust him (especially given his demotion) and even if not him, somebody else could have leaked the information. I mean, hell, Poe is best friends with a literal former Stormtrooper and while we know he's a good guy, Holdo doesn't know him.

I will say that I think all of her scenes could have been given to Ackbar and absolutely nothing would have changed, but perhaps they were trying to invoke a bit of Mon Mothma with her character.
