Religion and politics are very personal things and they shouldn't influence how you interact with others, and you should keep it to yourself unless asked.

I feel like that message could solve a lot of problems for people no matter what you believe, in faith or in politics.

Nah. It's not private when your politics start affecting others, and most politics affect others in ways that others that don't share your view probably don't want. Slightly lessened given the relatively small impact people have on each other, but it still reflects important beliefs and morals of a person.

Religion can be the same too, but not as much in the west anymore.

So in 'democracy', in which the people as a whole are supposed to get together and all be responsible for shaping the policies and direction of the government.. everyone should keep their 'politics' to themselves by default and maintain these thoughts as a strictly internal personal affair

it's too idealistic to think that everyone will ever get together and shape the policies and direction of the government. this topic is about the general average joe who can mouth off his politics whenever he wants, but nothing is ever going to change as a result of what he says or does. it's only those few people actually in government who will make anything happen

I would argue that American society is less public with its politics than others. See the willingness of the French to take to the streets over changes in labor law, or Brits protesting tuition increases.

It's not like your beliefs actually matter. Once you vote to elect someone it, you cede all control and have no say in how the politician runs the governing body.
