Watched The Mummy last night. It was ok/10. Not used to seeing my boy Tom Cruise being an idiot instead of Mission Impossible or Knight and Day.

Shame they made them generic action-blockbuster tripe instead of legiitmate monster flicks. I would have loved a Universal Monsters revival. But Dracula Untold was terrible and I wasnt touching a mummy movue starring Tom Cruise. >_>

After the success of MCU, Warner Bros wants to make a cinematic universe where all the monsters are set in the same universe. Godzilla and King Kong was planned to be part of this universe.

Universal Studio followed the trend and making their own cinematic universe, but with the Mummy, Dracula, etc.

It was a poor film, and the mummy im it just needed a good banging, Rick in the 98 Mummy would have defeated her in about 10 minutes.

they only released The Mummy.
the 2nd movie was supposed to be The Bride of Frankenstein with Angelina Jolie, but the flop on The Mummy puts the project on hold.

Kind of a shame. I mean, the Mummy part wasn't anything to write home about, but I thought the idea of Jekyll running a BRPD for movie monsters sounded like a fun franchise.

Dracula was meant to launch the franchise, but since it flopped so bad they went back to the drawing board. The Mummy went a different direction and became the official start of it. The idea isn't totally dead though, they're trying to rework it AGAIN.

It's funny because the original Universal monster movies created this idea in the first place. They had a lot of crossover films.
