This upsets me. Cloverfield Paradox was not especially good but it was fun and watchable. This is hard to sit through.

Altered Carbon was based on my favorite book so I'm biased but I thought it was amazing. I'd say it's worth watching just for the spectacle alone, the world and production values look great.

I've not seen it yet but I've heard mixed things leaning positive. Although it is worth noting as their February sci-fi films go The Cloverfield Paradox is a masterpiece compared to this.

This also has one of the worst subplots I've ever seen in a major film.

I didn't really like the first episode of Altered Carbon, it's got some neat visuals but every character except AI Edgar Allan Poe was an unlikable asshole, with especially the main guy being a boring edgelord with negative charisma. It just left me with a vaguely miserable and exhausted feeling with no desire to get to know its world better.

I don't normally care for those types of characters, but this was a setting/situation where an asshole personality works for me.

I felt Altered Carbon fell apart towards the end. They spent the first half of the show building up the Meths as above the law living like gods and can pretty much buy anything or anyone, even lives. Then two very powerful Meths get taken down for murder and suddenly the police they bought were no use. Very inconsistent. And it's hilarious that these Meths can backup their consciousness but can't backup their backup so they are vulnerable to computer viruses. Again the tech is inconsistent.
