Really depends on the game. I liked Red Mages for being generalists (because I like having healing spells *and* being able to deal decent damage), but some games like Final Fantasy Explorers let you use other classes' spells/abilities with a penalty at which point I default to something like Black Mage for the better DPS. Otherwise, I like Dark Knights, Dragoons, Paladins, and Blue Mages. Also Time Mages, obviously, but that's just a neat class in general.
