Looking for something to play.

I know people keep saying Persona 5 but I tried playing Nier: Automata and found it boring for the first few hours and never went back to it.

I know from experience that lots of JRPS are crap for hours and then "Get better later." but I dunno, I think now there is such a range of games that I'm more inclined to play one of the thousands that is good from the start.

So I think I'm a little Japan-Cutscene heavied out. Even Gravity Rush 2 got a little grating with it's nonsense and that was a great game.

Played it.

I enjoyed it but I don't see how it's any different to any other Uncharted Game, they're all identical.

Yes, I thought it was great.

Sure it didn't do anything new, but it didn't lots of things really well and I loved the attention to detail.

Truly a great game and it was nice to see New IPs rather than sequels and remakes, even if it was really unoriginal and took no risks.

I tried one of the Yakuza games.

I had no idea what was going on and the game started with a 20+ minute recap of people I didn't know taking it turns to kill or betray each other which left me more confused than if It just dropped me in the deep end.

I feel like it's a series where you really gotta start from the begining rather than jump in.

people say that Yakuza 0 is the best in the series, and from what I've played, it's really good, IMO.

I played the first one, and I really enjoyed it, but I hear that Kiwami has added a lot of stuff, so I don't know how the experience might have changed

Dragon Quest Builders is what MineCraft Story Mode should have been with all the bullshit and grinding cut out. Actually reminds me a lot of Actraiser or classic Sims.

If you want a JRPG that gets straight into the gameplay, try Romancing SaGa 2. It's on pretty much every current system except 3DS though, so if you wanna play it on something other than PS4 there's that.

No, its just an over-rated remake of a Japanese only niche-rpg with some trash "features" like breakable weapons and alternative leveling systems. Little to no plot telling you where to go; so you feel lost, not free.

Ultimate plot boils down to you have to stop the evil thing from destroying the world. So you do that by hitting it.
Generic stealth mechanics.
Generic bow and arrow mechanics.
Shocking twists on narrative structure and cliche such as you are shunned and your mentor dies tragically

Real ground breaking innovative stuff.

I agree with you that it is a good game but it's among the most bland riskless mainstream release of the year. At least for a new IP.

It's good because it took 15 things that have already been done to death and did them all well because they have been perfected due to being done to death.

And if your idea of red haired women killing dinosaurs is innovation (it isn't to begin with) I should point out that Regina and Lara Croft were doing that before you were born.

Weapons don't break here unless you use a desperation technique that explicitly breaks them, and unlike the original Romancing SaGa you're almost constantly tripping over new events when you actually explore, so nah. The game also has a log that keeps track of events you've seen so it's easy to see where you've done things and what you need to do. There's no reason you should be feeling lost unless you just aren't paying attention.

As for sounding like a dating sim, there's more than one definition to "romance".

Yakuza 0 is a prequel. it launches the story and introduces the characters.

it was my first Yakuza game and I really, really enjoyed it.
