Are sociopaths, trolls, and have behavioral issues. They're incapable of treating other people like human beings and generally tend to shit on the accomplishments or even simple proud moments of other people. Many of them don't belong to an IRL community and tend to stay shut-in, granting their lack of social grace a reason, but not an excuse.

And in the last few years, the less time I've spent around toxic forums, the better I've felt overall. I just don't understand why people choose to behave so poorly to others.

in a lot of cases it's not a case of 'oh I can choose to be nice or I can choose to be a jerk. hmmm... I think I'd rather be a jerk!' lots of people just aren't aware of how bad their own personality is. they'll do or say things that have a much more negative impact on others while in their own mind they believe they are doing nothing wrong.

not me though, I know I'm a giant piece of shit and I just don't care. so in that respect I'm one of the people you're describe who actually chooses to behave poorly toward others. well, unless you have a deterministic view of the world. in that case all of my experiences up until now turned me into the type of person who would act like an unrepentant asshole even knowing about my own personality flaws.

I've actually found that when I'm more active and happier IRL, I'll troll more online, because it's just a silly thing to do for a couple minutes a day when I have the time to spare.

The couple years long ago when I was more shut in, I'd be nicer online because I'd spend more time there, as if i were looking for a home.

For me, it's the opposite. It's when I'm working a long, hard day at work that I start getting into a bad mood. That's when I start noticing how bad people are and how much I desire to shitpost. This turns into me trolling gaming forums and calling out people with bad opinions, or calling out SJWs on Twitter for their one-sided, sexist views.
