Having not watched the tournament, but seeing how the Enzo situation turned out, I bet Cedric would be pissed to be jerked around as a contender for months, just to lose the final. I mean, I doubt he would have beaten Enzo, but he was the "default backup plan." Usually you just give them the championship in these cases.
