People in low income areas do have jobs. School costs money like the previous posters said, and even some of the lower paying places don't like to fill their staff for some reason.

Time can be a big factor in schools too. Some classes depending on what you want to do are limited, and a degree doesn't guarantee a job.

You can live pretty fucking well even if youre part of the poor working class these days. Well as in theyre fed and housed and entertained and have their jollies. Especially if you got extensive networks of family and friends. Probably the biggest thing you lose out on is elaborate vacations.

Also some people find the better job search pretty difficult to navigate socially unless they have an industry contact.

And healthcare. And vehicles that don't break down. And hope for retirement. And sending your kids to a better school.

Not saving for retirement is definitely not just a poor person problem.

This

Pell grants are max of $5500 or so a year. That's about $1k shy of my university tuition each year.

You can make that up in scholarships and student loans. You'd end up with like $4k in student loan debt. That's nothing

What's the point in getting a job when you can just sit at home or at liquor stores all day drinking booze while the government pays you to be poor?
