It was actually pretty good. The SJWs really overblew it. I 1/2 expected it to just be a fuck white people movie judging by the responses from the SJWs. It wasnt. It was a pretty decent suspense thriller.

It's good but not Best Picture good. It's bizarre that a horror movie was nominated. And suspicious that in 90 years the first one was Get Out

Yeah it's actually a fantastic movie. I delayed watching it for the same reason but was absolutely enthralled when I finally got around to watching it.

Cause it never happened before in 90 years. And Get Out is not even the best horror movie of 2017

It was just a small cult of white people. The movie didnt do much to promulgate the actions or thoughts of white people in general. At least thats what I drew from it while watching it.

While I don't feel like getting into a spoiler-tag laden synopsis of the film's racist undertones, they certainly were plentiful. Everything from the plantation style setting of the movie symbolizing the parallels of modern America to pre Civil War days as if to say nothing has changed. The protagonist even starts off a little racist himself only to have all of his white fears validated a hundred fold by the end of the movie. People mistakenly think because of that "I voted for Obama" line that the movie is taking a dig at white liberal progressives, but they're really missing the point, which is that kind of tokenism and shallow virtue signaling does nothing to detract from the white person's "true" innate agenda of managing or subjugating black people either through so-called "privilege," guilt by association, or some other bullshit. But for me, the clincher was near the end when literally every white person in the movie, including the goddamn white blind guy, was a racist slave trading profiteer. I had hoped the movie would be lucid and intelligent enough to adopt a more nuanced approach to racial awareness, but nope, movie goes "that's right folks, ALL the white people are evil!" Its message is as toxic and offensive as it is wrong. I don't really know how the movie ended because I dozed off after that point, bored with the cliche.

The police officer who pulls them over at the beginning was white and was trying to help the black character. This movie wasn't "anti-white." more like "white people are spooky"

it ends with the guy finding out that even his girlfriend is in on it which I hated. and he is out on the road trying to escape and she shot him I think. and then a cop car shows up and he thinks another white person has come. but then his security guard friend steps out and saves him. and they drive home.

It had a unique story that set it apart from other horror films and touched on the idea that missing black people make up a Chunk of missing peoples cases and something like this actually might be happening with something like slavery

to me, IT is one of the best horror stories ever written. and the 2017 movie was pretty good. even though they changed it from the 50's to the 80's. It was better than Get Out, I think.

To touch on that, Everyone at the party wasnt involved in the trading, they just bought the bodys of the slave - you missed the part where they literally put away the black essence of the male and transfer themselves into the actual vessel becoming black themselves. And as a Previous poster states, it was just a small cult of white people, not the entire population.

nuff said.

edit: nvm saw the post mentioning 3 others that got nom'd/won lol

still though, it was very much average/above average. nothing special and much better horror flicks came out around the same time. we all know why it was included.
