International war crimes and being ignored when me and other politically active people were warning about governments setting up the mass surveilance networks we deal with today.

I wonder what other issues I will be told are slippery slope fallacies.

Meh, that could be attributed to the 80s or 90s and is fairly general.

Let's see:

2000 - Obviously the millennium was a thing and although it didn't seem a big deal knowing that not many folk get to experience a millennium is kinda neat.

2003 - I left secondary school and got my first job. Not coincidentally the first time I get the internet at home too.

2004 - Around this time I got into Slipknot and listened more to Nu Metal music. I also grown my hair long and started dressing "goth". I still like black now and Nu Metal so eh

2006 - My older sister got married. She also died that year of cancer. She was 26 at the time. She died a few days after her birthday so at least she got to experience being "happy" one last time and see her friends/family together.

2009 - My first nephew was born.

That's really about it. I know this post is more personal than what you was referring to but these are things I associate that decade with.

He was elected in 2008, he was inaugurated in 2009.

On topic: The one thing that stands out to me was the cars of the 2000's were just godawfully bland.

Not particularly. It's mostly just 9/11, George W Bush, the rise of social media and the Internet, Harry Potter movies, huge improvements in computer hardware and software, and a large influx in pop culture.

I just included all that because I'm a history buff.

Technically, you're correct. However, even though I know I'm wrong, I just combine "elected" and "inaugurated". It's weird, I know.
