Why do the controls randomly invert itself based on the camera angle? It's absurd and made getting one of the moons in the Sand Kingdom Bullet Bill Maze a much bigger pain than it should've been

I don't remember having any problems with the Bullet Bill controls. What exactly inverts?

It only happened when the camera angle was top-down. When pressing left you'll turn to the left, then at a random point turn to the right. It was really bad because the moon required you to go in a little mini-circle but the controls kept screwing up and causing me to crash into the wall
