They did drop the price of the standard Vive too to be fair. In this case the 'Pro' model is literally for businesses who are willing to cough up the change.

I think Rift is on track to overtake Vive for PC gamers though.

it's already happened in the Steam Hardware Survey and I imagine it'll just keep getting worse for HTC as other companies(namely Samsung) start to offer similar hardware at lower prices

I think a lot of people completely overlook the Mixed Reality headsets. It's odd. I don't really see any marketing or buzz for them at all.
