TTGL is a go-to example of can you willingly suspend your disbelief and just go with it. If you can, its fantastic. If you cant or wont, its abysmal.

I absolutely adore it but I love absurdist stuff, whether its for comedy and just hype.

I have no problem with suspending disbelief or with over the top stuff and I didn't enjoy what I watched of the show

So this one is pretty hard to talk about and was extremely hard to rank, but I ended up slotting it here. It's a short little music video that tells the story of a couple as they age over the years, and the trials of life they go through together.

Honestly, I teared up the first time through, and did so even harder just now, trying to get some writing material. I think the video speaks for itself, so obviously you should just watch that. One thing I truly loved was how he breaks the fourth wall near the end, using all of his strength to stop the flow of time so that he can be with his wife longer. Very powerful stuff.

21. ReLIFE (2016)

ReLIFe is the story of a man who is unable to find work thanks to quitting his first job 3 months in, and has been living an unfulfilling life as a NEET. He one day gets drunk and is approached to be a part of an experiment that regresses the appearance of one to that of a teenager, and allows them to live out their high school life again, in an effort to help them rediscover their happiness. Now he must blend in with high school students, helping them with their problems, while learning more about himself.

The story hits a bit close to home on a certain level. Kaizaki's issues with transitioning into the corporate world mirror mine, though his turns out to be more due to trauma, rather than general unenthusiasm. Still, it's great to see him develop as a character. He goes from a jaded guy who just wants to get the experiment over with so he can get a job recommendation, uninterested in evaluating himself as a person, to a man who ends up caring deeply for his classmates, and doesn't really want it to end. The different character arcs that compound with the main story do take a bit more focus, however, since the anime ended before the manga began truly exploring Kaizaki's emotions concerning the project as a whole. It's a lot of melodrama, but it's all good melodrama. My only complaint is Kariu, who I like as a character, but she ends up being the main cause of the drama within two arcs in a row. It was great the first time, since it helped build herself and Hishiro as characters, but the volleyball arc is easily the worst part of the story, since it just redoes her development, while adding little else to the others.

I haven't seen the last four episodes they released as specials, but I'm glad I decided to read the manga first, since I can't imagine how they would manage to fit all that into four episodes. I loved the show, but the manga is a completely different animal, and it would've been cool to see a true adaptation in that regard. But, I mean, the weakest part of the manga ranks 21 for me on the list, so that should tell you how much I love this story. Every character is great, and it gives some beautiful life advice within the writing. Had I read it before I'd mostly figured things out, I'd probably have loved it even more.

No, the anime just has to hit the high notes because it's cramming a ton of content into just 13 (17 counting the OVAs) episodes. I'd definitely recommend reading the manga if you watch the anime and like it because you get so many more little details and development. Chizuru Hishiro is legit one of my favorite anime/manga characters after reading the manga.

21. Code Geass (2006)

Code Geass is about a guy who gains the ability to control someone's actions, nd how he uses it to lead a rebellion against a corrupt empire under the guise of "Zero". It's a show that basically everyone has at least heard of, and I'd be surprised if anyone following this hasn't seen it. It manages to appeal to both hardcore anime fans as well as the casual ones, so it's one of the more popular shows to come out, like, ever.

It's been a long ass time since I watched this, so I'm having trouble really pinning what to say about it, but the writing was always on point. It ran for 50 episodes, and I rarely felt bored with it. Each episode had great intrigue, and it knew how to end on interesting concepts and events that made for an overall enticing journey. It's a bit of a love/hate show, depending on how much value you put into consistency, and how easily entertained you are. I am quite easy to entertain, and therefore absolutely adored the ridiculous nature the show takes in R2. I never viewed the show as anything beyond just being a lot of fun, so I was cool with it.

I'm not sure I care about the sequel, though. It had one of my favorite endings OF ALL TIME, and I feel like the new one will cheapen it immensely. Especially so, since I hated the fan theory that's apparently actually true because they probably just wanted to cash in. You also had the movies that starred different characters, but I watched the first and literally remember nothing about it, much like Noein. The series should've just stayed as it was tbqh.

was surprised by how much worse code geass was than death note. dropped like 10 episodes in. i think that it might have been too concerned with characters, but they were bad. also the hamminess didn't work for me.

might be worth another shot someday.
