I am in favour of changing gun laws in the US, but if this change is anything to do with the political climate, that's just stupid.
I will be interested to see where these posters actually appear in the wild. It looks like they have not entirely replaced the original design, just created this version as alternative art. And there's some plagiarism case involved?

And having worked for Carmike Cinemas for years, I'm willing to bet that the new posters are being force-shipped to all US theaters, with a demand to replace the old posters with them. All chain theaters and most Indies will likely comply.

A space gun is still a gun regardless so I'm not sure what point you're trying to establish here.

Also, your comparison to video games isn't a good one because they are aware they are engaging in a virtual reality world, whereas with the Star Wars movie, it uses actual human beings portraying characters. It adds more to the realism.

I already stated that I disagree with Disney's decision to alter the posters. I think it's dumb and unnecessary. But you can't deny that America has a sick love affair with guns, and it is reflected in its media.
