and I doubt kids will even be able to differentiate.

Kids are perfectly capable of playing violent videogames and recognizing that said violence isn't real. I think you're severely underestimating children if you think they can't recognize the difference between a space laser and a pistol.

We're not talking about lightsabers or space lasers here, rather, the depiction of firearms in the movie.

Also, your comparison to video games isn't a good one because they are aware they are engaging in a virtual reality world, whereas with the Star Wars movie, it uses actual human beings portraying characters. It adds more to the realism.

No it doesn't. There isn't a single study that has EVER concluded that fictional violence has an impact on kids. It wasn't true when they went after music. It wasn't true when they went after TV. It wasn't true when they went after videogames, and it isn't true now. You're basically being a puritanical conservative christian from the 80s and 90s and not even realizing it.

Think of the times we're living in right now where everyone's talking about gun control and all that in the wake of dozens of mass shootings that have occurred. Right now, guns are a hot topic, hotter than it's ever been.

We're gradually trying to shift away from all that negativity by taking a more sensitive approach on how guns are included in media. I don't disagree with Disney's decision at all.

That sort of "more sensitive approach" would be releasing the rough equivalent of a "clean version" for specific theater chains.

Which has nothing to do with whether that media leaks through into the minds of children. They are in fact totally different things. But hey, we should probably cover up their shoulders/ankles too just in case children turn into sexual deviants at the mere sight of a woman's skin.

If you believe they're influenced by it, and you support more restrictions on guns, then you should support removing them from the poster.

Since you've already stated, repeatedly, that you don't support the decision and believe it is dumb, then you can't possibly believe they were actually going to influence the kids who go.

You've stated 2 mutually exclusive positions on the matter. Which is it?

Kids can differentiate between space blasters and real guns just fine.

The issue is the imagery being presented, that is, having a gun makes you a powerful, badass, handsome hero.

Only because you haven't seen the movie and are making assumptions about how guns will be presented in the plot. Lest we forget that in the original trilogy Solo was basically laughed out of the room for suggesting a gun is better than a light saber. Or that in the prequel trilogy guns were called primitive and uncivilized. Or that storm troopers are basically useless with blasters. Guns have never been glorified in the star wars universe.

or in 8 when Rei gets a gun and is instantly empowered
or in 8 when Han practically deeds over how awesome Chewie's gun is

So Disney glorifies guns?

It's been politicized by liberal media. Gun violence has actually gone down in the past decade in the united states, and the rest of the world for that matter. It's funny that people bring up Australia as an example of gun violence going down via banning firearms when gun violence in America has gone down at the same rate without banning firearms. Conversely gun violence has increased in Japan since their government outlawed firearms. When you check the studies and take out the numbers they count from suicides and gang violence, the number of mass shootings in the united states is actually at an all time low. It's just that every single time one happens the media politicizes it and shoves it down our throats all while people plug fake inflated statistics as facts without any fact-checking.

This is just another example of a hollywood company pushing it's personal politics in it's product. Disney has been positively poisonous with this lately. Reminds me of how conservatives tried to outlaw superman 50 years ago because they claimed he encouraged delinquency among American youth. It's the same mentality. "You can't control yourself so we'll revoke your rights. It's for the greater good."

Gun violence and public shootings are two different things for the record. Also people don't need to die from people bringing guns to a public place and attempting to kill people for it to be an issue.

We shouldn't be accepting of the state where people are trying to shoot up a school at least once a month.
