Blogfaqs warning

Everyone I work with day to day at my store is wonderful, but we have this new district manager and he is just a moron. He has absolutely no experience in pharmacy and cares about the stupidest shit (to the detriment of effeciency) and things we can't control.

He cites an infamously terrible store in our district as the pinnacle everyone should strive for, because they press the right buttons on the workstations and sit on the phone for long periods of time (so long that the average wait time to get someone to pick up is north of 5 minutes). He never even goes to that store because he's so satisfied with their "excellence".

He also believes it is somehow the responsibility of the pharmacy to get more people our store despite us already having some of the best customer service around? His response to our head pharmacist about that? "I don't care about customer service. People only say something if they love a store". Which is babbling nonsense, proof he has never read any reviews on anything ever, and a terrible argument given other stores get less good and far more bad. /opening rant

Please care, PharmaCE

We have an, uh, interesting manager too. He uses his power and authority to his benefit. I don't want to be too detailed. >_>

I probably shouldn't say too much at the risk of giving away more intimate details, but so just can't stand someone caring about "the way" to such a detrimental level. He'd rather we work far slower and less efficient so long as we follow the system. That would definitely bring in the patients he wants us to have more than great service and speedy efficiency would. Jesus, he doesn't even want us to fax doctors despite doctors always wanting us to fax. Because sitting on hold and leaving messages with receptionists and operators is in everyone's best interest.

What does this have to do with specifically retail pharmacy? This is typical corporate.

Retail pharmacy as opposed to other pharmacy-related jobs. And this is the worst guy I've ever worked under even in the bigger working world.

This is one of the reasons why I can't and could never deal with retail pharmacy. The practice model is far too focused on corporate matters and metrics that I care for.

At least here in the hospital, I can leave that stuff up to pharmacy leadership.

So I'm guessing you guys are all pharmacists?

I have a few problems with them. I've recently had a couple new scripts, and when picking them up I have questions for the pharmacist, specifically, with this work with a heart med that I take and which I get from a mail order pharmacy (insurance thing) and what kind of side effects might I have. The pharmacist never has time and I'm asked if one can call me OR can I schedule a specific appointment time to come back and talk to someone.

That stinks!!!! I just go to my pharmacist friend on gamefaqs and he answers my questions and takes good care of me.

I donot like retail pharmacies.

One great thing about pharmacies is that they are supposed to be a place where you can get advice without needing an appointment. The pharmacists at my store would never send you away unless they were stuck dealing with another matter for an extended time. Like anything, sounds like you are just dealing with shitty people.

Exactly. In pharmacy school, we had a class called self-care therapeutics/OTC meds where we were trained on how to counsel/advise patients on medication and disease related matters in an outpatient setting.

It might be a question about whether it's okay to take nasal decongestants while suffering from high blood pressure or if you've got a 1-day old fever and what to do about it.
