Japan has a falling population and their debt is about 2.5x the US debt. Eventually, they are just going to cave in on themselves. Maybe not soon, but it IS inevitable. Opening their borders to immigration might be best, but we all know that if they do, all those 350 pound Narutos will move over there. It's kind of tough for them to be in situationally.

Japan is a ongoing reminder that Keynesian Economics does not work. The yen will crash and the economy will get a much needed reset as many zombie corporations that the central bank kept afloat for decades finally liquiditate. Then the country can finally move on from their late 80s crash. The answer isnt to feed poor third world immigrants to their social security Ponzi scheme.

Decreasing population is truly a globalist fear mongering piece of propaganda. It's good that we're making less people.

Do you know of many old people capable of that kind of groundshifting ideological compromise in their advanced age? The current ruling generation will literally die before they consider something like this. Their kids might do the same. Acceptance of foreigners and tourists in big cities like Tokyo or Yokohama are one thing. The rest of the countryside is something else.

Politicians are naturally going to gravitate to a school of thought that says they can save the economy. And that pulls academia with them.

It also helps that every time a Keynesian stimulus fails (like in Japan, over and over) the Krugman types can just say, if only they spent more sooner.

Population fear mongering is propaganda. There are tiny countries like Sweden who do amazing economically and their population is basically the size of Manhattan.

The only reason for this fear mongering is because big corporations need a lot of people to make more money for them. Mass immigration only benefits big corporations not the average person.

You can already emigrate to Japan they just have standards on who they let in.

Japan just needs to go more socialist if they're to survive in their current condition. You've got 3 generations of family all living in the same apartment cause it's too expensive to move out.

Plus automation wasn't a thing back when population concerns were created.

Why would Immigrants want to go Japan anyways? I don't think the place is big enough for that kind of development, out of all the big land masses located around Earth, to choose Japan is rather bizzare.

Japan simply has a worse condition of what most of the counties in the West have- the cost of living is too damn high to comfortably have a decent sized family. In the days when a single earner family could afford four kids, everyone was doing it. Employment is less reliable, raising kids costs more, housing costs more. You have to either be poor, or pretty well off to afford more than a single kid without making serious sacrifices.

LOL yeah, they need to get more socialist. They need to be more like North Korea, South Africa, or Venezuela. Extreme poverty will help them out.

Some people.

Combine a high cost of living with, while not the worst by far, still a country noted for population density issues, I don't think taking people in would be considered a great idea.
