Many groups don't want to hear that they have mental issues and would rather plug their ears and deflect to something else.

Maybe removing guns would stop people from shooting each other, but if we're all still so fucked in the head, so disillusioned, so generally fucked up and broken, the only way we stop killing each other is to put us all in padded rooms

Like 10% of the population has personality disorders, yet we still don't even really know what fucking causes BPD, APD etc, nor are any of us really able to do anything to HELP those people. It just becomes a game of how long you can last around them before you have to bail or fucking die

truth is if we want mental health to be the focus, it's going to be an open debate on its sources that many arent ready to handle. the scope, time, and quality efforts to tackle this issue may not be attainable yet.

gun control is measurable and satisfies public interest. however the problem is the follow through. I believe gun control enforcement is left to local business and local authorities. something like this impacts business. local authority is scrutinized for it's law enforcement. it's a cycle of gun laws get stricter, mass shootings, gun control debates, and it progressed to worse community tragedies.

OK, assuming you can throw HIPPA out the window and violate doctor patient confidentiality, if seeking mental help will flag you in a NICS check, what will happen? More people will simply forego seeking mental help and you'll end up with MORE MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE WITH GUNS.

Guns are far better at the task of killing people (particularly large numbers of people in a quick timeframe than knives or bare fists.

In the west, only the US sees this level of violence. I'm not convinced that we have significantly higher rates of mental illness than the UK or Portugal, where the murder rates are less than a third of ours.

It's a sticky situation for the left. When Democrats have tried pushing legislation limiting gun sales to the mentally disabled, the ACLU and left-wing disability groups fought it under claims that it was discriminatory.

So, it's easier for libs to just go after the guns than the mentally ill.
