all the radiation, broken sleep schedule, loud ambient noise, bland meals, and hassling passengers can seriously mess up your physical and mental health. I don't understand how some people can tolerate it, especially in international flights that take 16-24 hours

I really empathize with people in customer service jobs, but I really can't if you're a United flight attendant and a passenger is giving you a hard time. 9 times out of 10 you deserved that shit.

I remember when my almost 6" wife was crushed because she was looking for work and discovered she was too tall to ever be a flight attendant (we both were, actually). I remember asking her if she had ever wanted to do that, and she didn't, she was just disappointed to find out that the option she never wanted was never an option.

ya my old roommate is a flight attendant and he was telling me there are very specific body limitations - basically being tall enough (but not too tall) and not too wide

one of the jobs where you could legally not employ someone because they're fat

you apparently get some great perks, i think he said he was able to fly first class to tokyo for like a fraction of the price

It sounds terrible to me, but i feel like whenever i hear someone say they are a flight attendant, they follow it with "i love my job".

The one girl was saying it opened her up to travel the world. She does an international flight. Stays there for a day to explore then does a flight back. I don't know how common that is though.

yeah this is fairly normal, but getting a full day off to dick around isn't too common. sometimes you're lucky to get a few hours, if anything (i.e. get into destination city late at night, then leave the next morning).

my ex-roommate was telling me you cant just up and decide to take international flights though. there is a totem pole, you gotta start domestic for a while and deal with shitty 6AM flights and weekend flights and holiday flights. but he was only maybe a year into it when i moved out and he was already moving up, so i get the sense that you can advance pretty quickly as long as you don't fuck anything up

you can get a lot of "not actually working" hours too by just being on call. i was a little jelly of that because he was telling me he really didn't get called up too much. really only when delays occurred or someone else called in sick or something
