Board 8 > Platinum #36: Borderlands 2 (PS3)

First platinum is almost 4 months, but I spent a lot of that time playing Borderlands 2. It's a really great game still in 2018.

Nick, Wigs, MSG, and I played through the whole game to level 50 on PS4 before moving on to the inferior Pre-Sequel. I loved BL2 so much that I decided to play through again solo on PS3. I already had the game and the season pass was on sale for $5 so I decided that was worth it. Probably 100 hours total in this game and I guess I am finally getting tired of it.

Platinum itself is not that hard. Only a couple tough collectables (fuck you JIMMY J3NKINS) and if you go past level 50 then Terramorphous is stupid easy. Almost every other trophy you get just for playing the game. There is one trophy that requires you to get to level 35 with Zer0 but I had used him for my PS4 playthrough so I didn't have to grind that one.

I just need to get a couple character-related trophies on the PS4 version and then I can cross off that platinum too!

I probably will not be getting the platinum for The Pre-Sequel. Fuck that game.

what made you hate it so much? I definitely thought it was worse than BL1 or 2 but didn't think it was a bad game.

It has a lot of issues with pacing and navigation. If you are playing it with 4 people then you probably are not paying that much attention to memorizing area layouts and the levels are often very vertical which does not translate on a 2D map. So we end up spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to get around. There also is a ton of platforming which as anyone knows is ass in first person.

The level design is also bad in that there is a ton of boring and unnecessary backtracking. The level environments are bland and, as I said earlier, are super confusing if you have not memorized the layouts.

I will admit that the game seems to be getting better as it goes along. We are probably 2/3 of the way through and the last few sessions have been more straightforward and entertaining. It might just be that I've lowered my expectations. The first 10 hours or so were really bad.

I thought there was one level in particular in the last half, maybe about 60-70% through the game, that had the platforming and navigation issues worse than any other part. Before that and after that I don't particularly remember a bunch of it. I agree that the level design overall is noticeably worse though, and that navigation is way harder.

I loved Athena's class skill and everything that came with it though, that character was a ton of fun to use. Never used Claptrap (because he's probably actually pretty annoying to try and use) or Nisha (because I didn't understand what made her interesting), but Athena was amazing. Wolf/Saint guy was underwhelming and not a ton of fun so maybe I should've used Nisha instead of him lol

Jimmy Jenkins you can pseudo-harvest if you never complete the Wildlife Preservation area missions, I believe

There's that one room where up to 4 midget loaders can spawn at once during one of the missions. Two or three tries should get you a JJ

I actually got JJ at random on the PS3 version. I never got him to spawn on PS4 so I just moved my PS3 character over and that trophy popped when I completed a challenge.

Update: Got the PS4 platinum just now. Turns out the sabre and phaselock trophies will pop after just one use if you already got them on the other system.

Not sure what my next platinum will be. I'm close on a couple games but do not have a strong desire to finish them. It might end up being the next game that hooks me.

I think I might start Red Dead Redemption because that game has been on my backlog for years.
