They're not technically the same thing but the former is often used to mask the latter, much in the way that nationalism will often be used to mask racism.

Hell no. There are Jews in Israel who are staunch anti-zionists.

I can strongly oppose what the US government does while not being anti-American. Why should Israel be treated any differently?

That's very much a case of dictionary definition vs what the majority of people believe it to actually mean. Not that are people who use it incorrect are wrong. Just it's worth bearing that in mind when people use the term they may and probably are using it wrongly.
