Which is the better group of four long-haired heavy/thrash metal dudes?

Also post your favorite song. I've never been very impressed with Megadeth and I want my mind to be changed.

They are both shite

Closest to my opinion.

I don't think they're both shite, I just think they're both boring.

I find Megadeth more technically impressive on a lot of their albums, and as Mykie said they outlasted Metallica who had a few good albums and then were incredibly hit or miss after the black album (which was still a great album despite a shift to a more radio friendly rock sound).

I'd say Megadeth was more consistent overall, but good Metallica > good Megadeth.

Edit: "Hit or miss" is putting it extremely mildly actually. >_> I stopped listening to any Metallica post black album. Then of course there was St. Anger, the collaboration with Lou Reed (lol), etc. Some hella decent riffs on some of the "Hard Wired" tracks though.

Megadeth all the way.

The only Metallica album I really like is Kill 'Em All, and Mustaine was still in the band when they wrote most of those songs.

Megadeth also put on one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They're actually willing to play smaller venues and seem to tour a lot more, so it really feels like they appreciate their fans more imo.

Megadeth, but I like the early Metallica stuff as well and some of their later stuff too. Kill 'Em All is one of my all time favorites and one of my biggest influences musically, I love the hell out of that swingy style with the endless waves of riffs.

Honestly I think the main thing that's set them apart is that Megadeth have always had fantastic drummers. I still like Lars. He makes great use of his limited skill set. But the Megadeth drummers have always had that really technical jazzy sound that make them stand out from the other thrashers that just try to sound heavy.

Metallica are honestly somewhat boring. There's so many more better and interesting thrash than Metallica and I don't understand why everyone acts like they're the messiahs of heavy metal.

For sure they wrote some good stuff but I think they're overrated.

80s metallica > megadeth > rest of metallica

metallica started going downhill with the black album although that was still pretty good. then they put out increasingly bad albums until recently they started getting better again. megadeth hasn't had anything really bad.
