Especially since there are far more parallels between the latter and today's world, while the former was just a period piece.

This. I personally like BNW more than 1984.

Most people I've talked to about both felt the same too.

I say this as someone who likes BNW over 1984, but literally every time someone brings up 1984 there are always people who say "BNW is better"

Poor word choice. I should have said that it's a product of its time. Obviously any piece of media will be to some extent, but 1984 is very clearly written about the Soviet Union and its influence.

On the internet. You talk to some random schmuck on the street and they're far more likely to have read or at least know something about 1984.

Fahrenheit 451>>>>>>>>Brave New World>>>>>>>>1984

My problem with BNW however is that it feels like a hybrid of both F451 and 1984 and yet doesn't feel as expanded upon as I'd hoped.

Aldous Huxleys best work is pretty easily The Doors of Perception imo. Also, read about how he died.

Also this book is supposed to be the inspiration for both of them:

Quite the opposite. Sex was used to placate people. Huge orgys were normal and expected to be have been partaken in.

I feel like they are both relevant today.

1984 is about surveillance, loss of rights and free speech, people being forced to submit due to fear and pain, dumbing down of language, censorship..

Brave New World is about getting lost in pleasures and desire, too much information being consumed at once, and abuse of science

They are both equally relevant pieces, just for different parts of the world. Brave New World is very much what America is starting to resemble, while North Korea and to some extents Britain resemble the world of 1984
