I make $12.95 now, but guaranteed 5 hours OT every week, so it feels more like $14. I'd like to actually make $14/hr.

I've worked with people who earned $150,000/yr with no college education.

Will watch videos shortly. Bump. 150k seems like a ton without any kind of investing.

I'm actually only a semester or two away from an associate's degree. But at $700 for one class at a CC, I can't really afford it.

Without any kind of investing? Ah, I see you've fallen into that toxic school of thought that education only comes from a classroom.

The guys I know who make a whole lot of money have a myriad of professional certifications and licenses. Just not a college degree. At the moment I have an OSHA 10 construction, an OSHA 30 general industry, AWS SENSE 1 and an AWS certification in 1" 1G. I make plenty of money with those. My university degree in business administration and information systems management, never earned a penny with it.

My wife has a US customs controller license and makes ridiculous money with it. Her degree in political science... largely worthless.

The college dream is turning into a money maker for the colleges and states and not much else. I know a ton of people with varying degrees who work dead end jobs and do well. I do well myself and the biggest thing I ever got was an emt-b and I already made way more at my current job at the time so Ive never used it.

There are a lot of industries where degrees are useless compared to actual experience.

Give me an account manager with 10 years client b2b experience over a recent business/marketing postgrad with a couple years experience working as a barista, any day.

That's not to say that the degree hurts or anything, but for many jobs I tend to think that that person would have been better served cutting their teeth rather than learning academically.

I do armed security right now, and am pretty much maxed out at $12.95/hr. I'm trying to explore other fields. Ideally something I can complete training/certificates in under 6 months.
