That's the frustrating thing. This card is fantastic...but sheesh. I heard a podcaster once say, "Why not make Mania a two night event just to spare people? The drawback would be making it a five day thing, but for fucks sake. I agree. 6-7 hours is nuts.

Yeah, Dave has been talking about how that would be a good idea ever since New Japan started doing it.

It wasnt feasible before the Network but now it totally is

(Also it already is a five-day thing. Remember Smackdown? <_<)

They could also easily test the idea at Summerslam too. Lower stakes

It would make a lot of sense for the Rumble too now that there are two Rumbles

You'd need an intimate idea of the costs involved I think to make a call about 2 nights. Two gates, but both slightly diluted because you'd 100% want to offer tickets as a package deal at a lower price rather than buying two separately.

I dunno. I'm in favour of it but with WM there's a lot to think about, more than with NJPW given the sheer scale of WM.

Anyway I have to say I'm really on board with this Cena/Taker thing. I can't believe they committed to it all the way to WM itself. Unless the match (or any kind of confrontation) just doesn't happen, which actually would be super lame.

My guess would be it gets announced very early on in the show and happens later, rather than being impromptu, to give the news time to spread on social media. But it could just be impromptu.

That might actually work. Cena comes out, cuts promo about not having a match and issues an open challenge. Taker interrupts promo and accepts for later in the evening. Taker vs Cena closes the show, since they did zero buildup for the WWE title match, and no one wants to see Reigns close out 4 Manias in a row.

Vince. Vince does. That's why we're going to see Reigns close 4 Manias in a row. There's no way Vince's golden boy getting crowned as "the guy" doesn't close the show.

The last time someone closed out 4 manias in a row it was Hulk Hogan (it was actually 5 in a row) and it was ill concieved then too. And Reigns cant hold a candle to Hogan.

Mania V - Good!
Mania VI - Impressive for a Warrior Match
Mania VII - Pure Shit
Mania VIII - Woo DQ endings with several big botches to end Wrestle fucking Mania
Mania IX - LOL

Hell even 3 in a row usually includes some measure of bad judgement

Cena got three but it involved doing TWICE IN A LIFETIME

Triple H got 3 in a row but did so by having himself and Jericho go last to a dead crowd

The Rock got 3 in a row but one was that A MCMAHON IN EACH CORNER nonsense.

Rock/Hogan should have close WMX8 which at best was a 2.5 match show.

Some shit's bigger than the title.

Also factor in the following on; HHH/Y2J having a dead crowd

- People feeling the WWE shat the bed by giving Jericho the title a little too late
- The Foregone Conclusion Hunter was going the fuck over after returning from injury/winning the rumble

Back to the present day.

It's like every year these go-home RAWS become more and more uninspiring, I know they've got to save their BEST for Sunday but come on.

I haven't watched WWE for a few years, but AJ vs. Roman was legitimately great both times. I don't love Roman, but he can hold his own. I don't think that segment was a super fair way to talk about his matches.

MMC ended the way it pretty much had to thanks to the corner WWE booked themselves into by bizarrely proclaiming that a loss by the miz would break the streak but did so by turning the match into the kind of shmoz that wouldn't ever fly in an actual tag match. LOL spending 100K on freaking Rescue Dogs. Probably the weakest match of the tourney since Big E/Carmella

Asuka and Charlotte do pretty successfully make the case for just doing Intergender tag matches though.

Their offense didn't look at all unnatural or anything against Miz or Bobby - though I suppose thet neither Miz nor Bobby attacked the women.

Didn't even bother to watch because of this. Asuka matches really aren't interesting to me anymore because of the streak. At this point I'd be okay with Carmella cashing in successfully just to end the damn streak, even if it is Carmella (with an unclean win) that does it. Her cash in attempt will definitely fail though, there's no way they do all of this streak buildup and obsession just to have her lose to Carmella.

Its worse than you think it is because EVERY time Roode had Miz on the ropes they would go COULD THIS BE THE END OF ASUKAS STREAK to just completely take you out of the moment. Because you know the streak isnt ending via The Miz getting pinned on facebook. They even had Michael Cole go THE STREAK IS OVER in reaction to Charlotte getting a Moonsault /Pin Combo off at around the one count which again completely tipped that this was a near fall. Phoenix and Cole COMPLETELY killed any heat the match may have been building that way.

I actually sort of expect Charlotte to win by turning full heel. Both of their characters need the evolution that that development would provide.

While Charlotte is one of the more believable people to end the streak, I don't think it happens now. It would make sense for it to be on a stage like this and not a random ppv like they did with Charlotte's PPV streak and Braun, but it won't happen that way. I don't really know who would make a logical choice at this point to end the streak, but I don't think it'll end up being Charlotte since she doesn't have a lot to gain from that and there's no long term story they can build with this to get someone else over. The only person I can see that's on the main roster right now is Rousey, and that would just be terrible (this assumes that it isn't via Carmella cash in or something). I could see Carmella cashing in after all this time and still failing against Asuka though.

The problem is they already wasted a MITB failure on Corbin. Carmella isn't great by any means, but it would really suck to have last year's PPV amount to squat.

I think this is another case of "the streak" booking them into a corner. You can't have someone like Carmella be the streak ender, even if it is with a cheap MITB cash in. Being the person to end the streak has to be an honor for someone who has a long and promising career ahead of them. I don't thnk Carmella fits the promising part.

Something I just realized thats interesting:

No one on the WM card has any sort of WM undefeated streak

Everyone on the card (with the obvious possible exception of Strowmans partner) who has wrestled at Wrestlemania has at least one loss.

The only WM Streaks in play are for the first-timers, who are as follows:

Shinsuke Nakamura
Asuka
Jimmy Uso
Jey Uso
Finn Balor
Bobby Roode
Ronda Rousey
Stephanie McMahon

Rarely in danger of losing is the balancing act Im trying to imply there

It would be interesting to go back and see how many times someone got a 2-count on Goldberg during the Streak

Thats part of why the DDP match is so legendary, because hardly anyone ever took Goldberg to the brink like that

Asuka seemingly pulls a victory from behind in half of her matches

Asuka in NXT was really the streak done right. Asuka on the main roster is, "Well, we have all these other women to keep strong!" and not understanding that Asuka being unstoppable doesn't necessarily hurt the kayfabe strength of other women.

I think this is a really good point. Asuka doesn't really dominate, she just wins because streak. Her close calls with Nia and upcoming one with Charlotte would have a lot more impact if she was rolling over the competition.
