Megabyte is suitably epic, and they actually found a decent voice actor for him. Honestly he's the only reason it isn't a full-blown garbage fire so far. The rest of the show so far (3 episodes in), especially the whole high school Code Lyoko thing, is not great. I've not run into any other past characters, so can't comment on how they handled them (Wikipedia says Hexadecimal, Bob, Dot, and Enzo are all casted).

I also don't recall the guardians calling out their powers in the original - of course I was also around 5 to 10 while the original series aired, so I couldn't say for sure.

The "Sourcerer" - the main human antagonist - strikes me as some kind of weird cheaper-than-cheap knockoff of Elliot from Mr. Robot, made almost slapstick-level evil and who graduated from morphine to meth a long time ago.

I'm still watching as I write this. The "distraction" in episode 4, the cat virus, is the kind of "tech-savvy" writing I'd expect from CSI. Besides that, the CGI visualization of the internet and other digital tech systems are better than I expected, but the stuff displayed on monitors (especially the Sourcerer's) are even beyond CSI-level awful.

Netflix resurrections are pretty hit and miss, but mostly miss. Trailer Park boys and Voltron worked out well, but everything else I can think of (especially Inspector Gadget) is garbage.

Haha.. damn. I don't know why companies feel the need to go so radically different from the source material. Even if they never finished the cliffhanger (or did they via comics? Can't remember). I don't know why they couldn't have just simply done a brand new series or even rebooted the original using a similar animation style. Making it live action/hybrid is NOT something any fan of the original series would have wanted or been excited for.

Which really blows, but I guess at least it isn't the showrunners' fault. They could have kickstarted it though, it would have easily funded, I bet.

The music is weird, it shifts back and forth between teen pop garbage, bog-standard "action" music, and actually halfway decent ambient, spacey synthwave. It's kind of jarring.

There's been a couple weird passive-agressive hyper-progressive digs, too. One has a character coming out of a "GENDER NEUTRAL BATHROOM" that the camera lingers with the sign centered for just long enough to make sure you recognize it. Another has a character ordering kale chips and opining about trying to be healthy when the payment system goes down.

I'd say Megabyte makes them all worth watching, but the scenes without him can be kind of painful. V.E.R.A. is mildly amusing, at least.

I read an insider quote a while back that literally everyone who worked there knew it was going to be hot garbage, except the company CEO who was basically letting his kid control the show's story.

The acting isn't bad, the teen actors are decent enough, and yes the voice actor for Megabyte is doing a good job too. Really if it wasn't suppose to be reboot I would probably like it more.
