Remember when a democrat won a strong republican gerrymandered PA district? Remember when Doug Jones won Alabama? Remember when a trans woman won a seat in Virginia?

I wouldn't put too much stock in polling this far out, but along with NV and Arizona, this makes three states where Dems have a real shot at ousting a GOP incumbent this fall. Assuming no blue losses (a big assumption), that could flip the senate to 52-48 in Democrats' favor.

Point is. The unbelievable are happening, despite what people think. People didn't do shit because they didn't believe Hillary would lose. People are alarmed now and are waking up. They are willing to do whatever they can to avoid having upsets occur again.

Bredesen is a well liked former governor(who won every county when running for reelection in 2006) and is running against a female version of Ted Cruz

He's well liked enough among republicans that even if dems don't turn out particularly well I wouldn't be shocked if he won a close race tbh

Name one trans person in this country who holds an elected position higher than Danica Roem's right now.

John McCain's replacement is appointed by the Governor till his seat is up for reelection, and the only real shot the idiots had was if Flake was dumb enough to run for reelection because people hated Flake.

How sure are you about that? For example, Franken resigned and his replacement is still up for election this year, even though he was up at the same time as John McCain.

I know there's a cut off for the year, but I don't think we've reached that yet.

Different states have different rules on when a special election for a Senate seat is required

Oh I see. For some reason I thought for national office the appointment rules were standardized.

C. For a vacancy in the office of United States senator, the governor shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. That appointee shall be of the same political party as the person vacating the office and shall serve until the person elected at the next general election is qualified and assumes office.

A. When a vacancy occurs in the office of United States senator or representative in Congress by reason of death or resignation, or from any other cause, the vacancy shall be filled at the next general election. At such election the person elected shall fill the unexpired term of the vacated office.

Ah, logic and reality, the Trump supporters worst enemy

I don't understand why @Tropicalwood was so confident they were right. I definitely saw articles floating around suggesting the possibility of having two senators up.

Did you read an article somewhere that said it didn't work that way?

No I knew that most states aren't special elections (particularly Arizona) and pretty much every non-special election state has the seat go during the next election for that office.

When you say "aren't special elections", do you just mean for Senate? Because Arizona does have special elections for House of Representatives.

http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/vacancies-in-the-united-states-senate.aspx

36 states appoint a temporary person and the seat goes up at the next general election, regardless of whether that seat is up or not.
