Wouldn't you rather have a safety and not use it, vs. buying one without a safety?
I'm looking to buy a handgun and I see variants with and without thumb safety (vs. handle/grip safety, or trigger safety). ... Copied to Clipboard!

A lot of people feel it could be engaged accidentally, leaving the gun inoperable when needed most. The same people who say "guns don't just go off" also say "the safety comes on by itself." It's a little silly. Also, there's the appeal of having it as slick and snag-free as possible.

Assuming you mean handguns, I prefer decockers to manual safeties on carry pistols, as long as there's some kind of trigger-actuated firing pin block.
It's just faster to draw and shoot. I would have more anxiety issues carrying a condition 1 hammer-fired pistol than a decocked hammer or DAO striker-fired pistol. --- Does the name Pavlov ring a bell? ... Copied to Clipboard!

Because they're an extra step to actually discharging it, which is why I like a decocker. Also pin block safeties are typically canned because they're bad for competition and don't really seem to do anything.

Buy whatever you're most comfortable with. I chose my Glock specifically because it doesn't have a switch safety. Just preference, really.
