I admit, a Kotaku article, but I've been thinking about that question for a while. I used to be a pretty avid pirate. I mean honestly, why pay for things that you don't have to? Not about the morality of it though, it became like having an iPod with every song. If you had every option in the world, the minute you'd even become slightly frustrated with a game you'd quit to move to a better one.

I found I started only playing games that I really enjoyed, which I usually owned. I started only really playing games I owned and skipping games I couldn't afford. Crusader Kings 2 has been the big example. I've pirated and deleted it several times, never being able to get into it at all. After they gave it away for free though, I spent many more hours trying to understand it... maybe because I owned it and was looking for a way to give the dev money with DLC.

Anyway, how do you guys feel about this?

This is the reason I dont spend any money on a game besides the retail price, I always get afraid Ill spend more and feel obligated to play it over something else.

Nah it's the opposite. Especially F2P games. I spend some money which shortcuts me to the end then get bored and quit.
