I've put together a few AR-15 rifles before. I sent the buffer retainer and spring flying across the room, I just grabbed the ones out of the other lower parts kit I have, the lost ones will turn up eventually. I used an x-acto knife to install the pivot pin detent, got it done in a few seconds, that part took me longest on my carbines.

I'm still waiting on a few parts but they are all easy installs. Waiting on the charging handle (the one in it is from another AR), bolt carrier group, trigger guard, buffer and spring and a hand stop.

What appears to be a stock is actually an arm brace, it folds down and braces against your forearm.

no stock. well atleast not according to ATF's incredibly stupid laws.

also your collection really needs an A2 and/or A4.

5 complete AR's with the parts to build a 6th, just don't have the tools to swap barrels. I also have 4 or 5 lower receivers I have not touched yet.

18 complete AK's and I've got a Russian krink parts kit.

It technically doesn't have a stock so it's not a rifle according to federal law and the decisions of the BATFE.

Its called collecting dude. Its for show.

Well it does load differently. I like the stripper clips that come with it and how you load it from the top. Nice to have a variety. I run cheap steel case stuff although I did contemplate some surplus corrosive stuff but decided against it.

As for the AR's, they all stay in the safe. I keep a Glock 19 loaded in my bedside drawer and an old Remington 1897 shotgun loaded on a rack in my bedroom. If I have to stop an intruder I don't want an AR15 plastered all over the news and in the courtroom. Those guns are also relatively easy to replace should they land in an evidence locker for a decade.

omg, get some Czech BXN clips, they were made for the VZ-58 rifles, they load soooo smooooth. They are like $1 each but they are very worth it. There was a guy from the Czech Republic selling them on ebay.

Is that a KAC flash can? My Scorpion came with one that I recently replaced with a suppressor, haven't figured out what to do with it.

I was actually considering to get a VZ-58 since AKs are banned in my area and they are a close substitute. However they are fairly expensive compared to the SKS so I decided to get the SKS instead.

Hmm seems like my local gun store doesn't have it in stock. I did a quick Google search and it seems like a modified SKS / AK. It does look like an AK more than an SKS. Cheaper than a VZ-58 too.

Yeah we Canadians get access to Norinco (Chinese) stuff, subject to stuff like magazine restrictions though. How available is surplus 7.62 x 39 for you? The ones I've seen are Chinese made so I assume you can't get them.

We cant get Chinese surplus anymore but there is still some available on the market from the early 90s imports. Most of our 7.62x39 comes from Russia and other former soviet bloc countries. The only real surplus 7.62 available right now is the Yugoslavian M67 ammo. Its excellent stuff but it is corrosive, Ive got a sealed crate (1,260 reds).

The Chinese stuff is corrosive too. It is cheaper than the Russian made Barnaul, but it is corrosive. I don't really want to deal with corrosive ammo ruining my guns or risk taking my gun apart and failing to put it back together.

Ive got a lot of the surplus 5.45x39 that is corrosive. I never shoot it (partly because its banned from import) but I would rather just shoot new ammo.

Mainly AK variants. When 7n6 surplus was super cheap there were a lot of people building ARs in 5.45 but once the surplus dried up people stopped building them.

The majority of our 5.45 ammo comes from Russia, one sanction away from being rare here as well. I've got 11k rounds or so that I bought cheap, should have bought more 7n6.

It's nowhere near as popular as 7.62.

Comparing American made brass .223 and 7.62x39 the .223 wins in cost. At least in Canada the steel case 7.62x39 costs about the same as .223. I haven't seen any steel case .223 though.

No doubt. We get steel case .223 from Russia, I usually shoot it in my AR's.

It's all Colt parts except for the lower receiver, trigger guard, barrel and fire control group. Colt M16A1 kits were plentiful a few years back, I bought one with a barrel already installed on the upper. It's 100% aesthetically an M16A1 minus the auto sear hole, the safety selector and the trigger guard is black instead of gray. The sling is iffy but I've seen images of those carry straps being used as slings in Vietnam.

The lower is a Nodak Spud A1 lower.
