Well that's why we need a full scale liberation with 500,000 BotG (boots on the ground). I'll settle for some serious tonnage if we are just sticking to airstrikes though.

Depends on your definition of weak and inefficient. The GOP stonewalled Obama for 6 years and made that presidency far less disastrous than he hoped to be.

There has absolutely been a leadership vacuum at the top even since Bush spiraled into unpopularity, and the only thing that seems to unite all the fractioning pieces of the GOP is "well who cares the democrats are worse".

That certainly didn't help. They are a fringe of the Republican Party, but they pushed out a lot of moderates in the name of purity, and spend a lot of their time rallying for causes that are so far out of line with the typical American that they have no hope of ever getting passed. They're basically just there to puff out their chest and brag about how conservative they are without ever attempting to get anything substantive done. They've also contributed to claiming the careers of many well respected Republicans, including Boehner and now Ryan.

I mean, establishment Republicans are also at fault here because when the Tea Party emerged they sort of half supported them and propped them up to show how mad the "average" American was with Obama. They weren't prepared for them to turn on them and start gobbling up the seat of better politicians.

In comparison, in what might also be a wave election (in the house, not the senate, I don't care what the crazy ranting republican guy says - the democrats aren't winning the senate), conservative democrats aren't getting pushed out the same way liberal republicans were when this happened last time:

https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/illinois-house-district-3-primary-election

I don't quite know what this means or if the trend can continue, but it looks like the democrats are okay with keeping a bigger tent while the republicans seem hellbent on shrinking theirs.

There is no reason to do this as he would be in the tail end and could not run again. That said, Trump's positions for the most part isn't the problem. It is how he goes about them and what he says.

I mean, I'm not saying they shouldn't try! Crazier things have happened. But if I was a betting man, I would bet on them, best case scenario, not gaining seats.

They have to defend WV, IN, MT, MO, ND, FL, and aren't sure things in states like OH, MI, and maybe WI/MN (probably not MN but its a weird special election so who knows). On the flip side, the Dems have good shots at NV, with possible AZ/TN weirdness depending on how things are looking at the time.

It isn't a good map.

VICE - The leading Republican running for Paul Ryans seat is a white nationalist

Longshot candidate and self-described pro-white politician Paul Nehlen is now the leading Republican to take over Ryans Wisconsin seat now that Ryan, the current Speaker of the House, is not running for reelection.

Nehlen incited international outrage in February, when he tweeted a photo of Prince Harrys fiance Meghan Markle with an image of a dark-skinned, prehistoric human known as Cheddar Man. (Markles mother is black.) Alongside the image, Nehlen tweeted, Honey, does this tie make my face look pale?

That racist tweet prompted Twitter to permanently ban Nehlen, though it wasnt the first time hed drawn criticism on the platform. In January, he posted a list of his critics and claimed most of them were Jewish. Hes also used the hashtag #ItsOkayToBeWhite, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which dubbed Nehlen an outrage artist.

https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/9kgzpd/the-leading-republican-running-for-paul-ryans-seat-is-a-white-nationalist

Glad he's a longshot, but that's not a good look to see this guy trying to fill in Paul Ryan's shoes.
