I should add that the Gunzerker was my least favorite to play as though. His skill tree isn't that interesting to me.

If you want to solo, Gunzerker would be the easiest time. He gets pretty stupidly overpowered.

Otherwise I mean I have no idea what you'd like so I guess I'll just say: Gaige. Just be warned that by endgame and even kind of before it, viability with her narrows to one build really: Anarchy. And it's a very distinct playstyle that will be an unusual experience that takes a lot of getting used to, but it can solo all content in UVHM...though for a couple of raid bosses you need very particular gear, and on top of that for one also a lot of patience and luck.

Personally I find that I outlevel golden key loot too fast for them to be much use for me.

Maya was cool but the Siren in Borderlands 1 was so OP and broken that Maya felt underwhelming by compaison

Probably a good idea. There might still be a ton of functional shift codes if you wanted more as well.

Thing is, if you get to UVHM, everything scales up with you. And that's an issue because unlike BL1, a few levels of difference makes a massive impact on damage output of gear. So no matter how great your stuff is when you enter UVHM, you'll need to get replacements after some levels. With all the DLC this isn't quite as bad as there's a few things to turn to, to get some good stuff. But...that might be when the gold keys are their most useful. On the road to max level in UVHM when your stuff is getting outdated and it's hard to get a lot more good stuff.

Gunzerker is basically tank + DPS and with his dual-wielding mechanic can eventually self-heal very easily by dual wielding a pistol you can farm from a vending machine that is very powerful, and taking but not finishing a quest that gives you a pistol that makes all damage you do heal you a lot. You can do a lot with just those two guns, because he gets ammo regen too, and he has a bit of specialisation for pistols even.

Gaige on the other hand, is...tricky. She's who I mained and I did solo all UVHM content with her. Without cheating in any way (which is more than can be said for A LOT of people >_>).

But it comes down to Anarchy. Anarchy: +1.75% gun damage per anarchy stack, -1.75% accuracy per stack, stacks are gained from kills or reloading a gun automatically from emptying the mag, without a class mod can get to 400 stacks. It might sound simple but in practice, and how all the different guns react to this, it's...not. Partnered with this is Close Enough: a 50% chance missed projectiles ricochet towards an enemy at 50% power.

If you like guns still feeling like guns in the endgame, you won't like Anarchy Gaige. Because Anarchy Gaige eventually feels more like a force of nature than someone shooting guns, especially when you're using something like a shotgun whose pellets shoot more pellets repeatedly and rapidly firing this with 400 anarchy stacks is like filling the screen with a haze of death.

Tbh I still don't know how to handle Voracidious as Gaige. I picked up and leveled fucking Salvador just for that fight.

On topic I personally had the most fun with Zer0. Can't really go wrong with any of them though. Krieg is a blast as well.

You pretty much have to have a fire Norfleet.

And a Trespasser sniper rifle.

And hope Deathtrap tanks a lot while pulling aggression.

And Magic Missile grenades.

First part of the fight is a delicate dance of doing what damage you can to Vora while ensuring the chief doesn't die, and then after the second or...maybe it was third time he gets the shield back, insta-kill him with Trespasser to take the shield out of the equation and at this point you basically have to hope you luck out with magic missile slagging and do enough damage with Norfleet, inevitably in FFYL that you kill him before you die. Having a DP Unkempt Harold and fire Conference Call as sidearms helps a lot.

Everything needs to go just right. It took me quite a few tries with this strategy to get it, and considering every death reset my 400 anarchy stacks, it was really annoying to keep trying.

It's also possible to beat Vora with a fire hail instead of a Norfleet. There's a video of that on youtube, but even the uploader warned it's more of a fluke than a real strategy.

@Tmk I never did pick up a Norfleet or a Trespasser for that matter so I guess I was gonna be SOL regardless for that one lol

I always thought about just Gibbing some of this stuff, but eh. Kinda takes the fun out of it, imo.

Trespasser is a quest reward at least so it's not hard to get, or just have someone drop an extra they have for you. It's only needed because it bypasses shields. Trying to kill Voracidious without removing the shield from the equation, solo, is just...unadulturated ass.

Ooooh I must have been saving that quest for endgame and forgot about it lol

I wish they let you just replay quests individually so you didn't have to restart the WHOLE game to get one or two quest rewards or save them until the endgame. Would have made getting a Fibber way less of a headache. >_>

Krieg is the most fun imo. Melee and tomahawk and setting yourself on fire for chaotic destruction.

Zer0 is glass cannon snipes

Sal is a DPS melt machine

Maya is good crowd control

Axton is well rounded by kind of boring imo

Gaige is supposedly good, but I never played as her

I'd say use the turret guy. I hate the 'stacks' skills, and if I remember right he doesn't have any
Plus if your going solo it's nice to have another source of damage when you have to take cover or something

I don't see the appeal in a character weighted towards melee damage in a game that has no equippable melee weapons and is all about guns.

Now if the game had just as many and unique melee weapons to find and use with all their own effects and stuff, sure, but...

I mean, what you say makes some sense....but have you actually tried Krieg? Enough to at least finish a skill tree? A well specced Krieg is dominant and a blast to play.

Nope. His stuff doesn't appeal much to me. I saw others playing him and watched videos. That explosion thing on death in particular seemed really fun. I mean I'm not saying he can't work.

I'm just more interested in playing to the game's strengths, and the game doesn't really support melee much, but it of course supports guns a ton. But since they seem to insist on having a lot of melee emphasis in skill trees it'd be nice for them to flesh melee out more in 3.

Release the Beast skill turns you into a super psycho ans refills your health when activating the buzz axe at less than 33% health and it instantly recharges it. When specced properly, the buzz axe deals stupid amounts of damage and and you can effectively chain it so you're rampaging most of the time.

Yep. I had to be about level 30 before I really started enjoying him

As for guns, well, in a game that emphasizes guns for EVERYONE, the characters that stand out the most are the ones with skills independent of guns, because all characters get guns.

Kreigs play style makes him unique and memorable.

on the ps3 i ran with the turret guy
handsome collection decided to try someone new and it was the zerker guy (preferred the zerker instead of the turret) could go out there like rambo and take enemy's out.

Can you only have one save file? I was going to test a couple of them out, but I don't see save files, and it looks like my old game is gone now

I wouldn't mind starting over after testing them out, but you need to hit Level 5 to try out their skill, and that's a bit too much to "get the feel" of someone.
